Bordeaux boss Vladimir Petkovic was delighted following his first win with Les Girondins at Saint-Etienne on Saturday night.
Speaking after the 2-1 victory at an extremely wet Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, Petkovic said: "It's not a relief and we deserved the win. The victory will do our morale and confidence good as well as help us in the standings. The win isn't enough and we hope to play even better against Montpellier.
"We showed the face of a true team against a side that needed to win at all costs. That gives me extra satisfaction. This type of victory brings the team together. The win is also a good signal that we're working well for the future. With the storm, it was difficult to play."
Saint-Etienne are second bottom of the table and are still without a win after six league matches. Coach Claude Puel said: "Apart from the first 15 minutes, I think we plated quite well. What is a paradox is that we conceded two avoidable goals and going forward we had numerous situations that we didn't manage to finish off. A win would have done us the world of good. It would have given us confidence at a difficult moment. We shifted our opponents around."
