Lionel Messi is "very happy" at Paris Saint-Germain, his close friend Cesc Fabregas has told French media and the Monaco midfielder is now looking forward to meeting him in Ligue 1 Uber Eats action.

Messi stunned the football world in signing for PSG in the summer, ending an association with Barcelona that had gone back some two decades.

The 34-year-old has yet to find the net for his new club in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, but Fabregas, who — like Messi — came through the Barça youth academy at La Masia, has told Prime Video the Argentina international has taken quickly to life in France.

"Yes, yes, he's very happy," said Fabregas in reply to a question about his friend's mood now as a PSG player. "There are a lot of players he knows already, and who speak Spanish. He's very happy, of course."

Messi's move to the French top flight was all the more surprising given he had been expected to sign a new deal with Barcelona only for the Catalan club's disastrous financial situation to derail the plan.

"I was on holiday with him a week earlier, and he told me he was close to signing for Barcelona and he was due to start training the following week. Five days later, he told me it wasn't possible and that the club had told him to leave," said Fabregas, who has been at Monaco since January 2019, and could feature against Messi when their clubs meet on 12 December.

"I was very sad, because I'm his friend and I'm a Barcelona fan. But now, I'm happy to be able to play against him this season."
