Valère Germain is calm and relaxed ahead of Montpellier Hérault SC's meeting with his former club AS Monaco on Saturday evening.

Montpellier head to the Stade Louis II with a point and two places to make up on their hosts, who are currently 11th.

Germain made his Ligue 1 Uber Eats debut with Monaco, and scored 49 goals in 198 games with the club before his career took him to Montpellier vis stints with OGC Nice and Olympique de Marseille.

He has hit the ground running with La Paillade, with three goals and an assist already. Despite not playing with a striker partner in Olivier Dall'Oglio's 4-2-3-1 system, Germain is thriving with the likes of Téji Savanier and Stephy Mavididi playing close to him.

"The coach had the intelligence to put Téji and I together in training almost from the start," Germain explained to l'Equipe. "It's important for a No.10 and No.9 to have a good relationship. He's also someone who sets the mood.

"Over the last few matches, Stephy and Téji have been quite close to me. It's as if we play two up front with a lot of the short-game. If I was up front on my own with two defensive blocks behind me it would be different."

Montpellier haven't beaten Monaco since October 2019 when Florent Mollet, Pedro Mendes and Andy Delort scoring in a 3-1 win at the Stade de la Mosson.

With Germain having replaced the Nice-bound Delort so effortlessly this season, it wouldn't be safe to bet against them ending that drought on Saturday.
