Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria has spoken of his happiness at the capital club and his hopes to earn a contract extension beyond the end of his current deal that ends in 2022.

'El Fideo' signed for PSG in the summer of 2015 after a difficult spell at Manchester United but so far, the Argentina international has enjoyed every second of his time at the Parc des Princes.

Contract Extension

Di Maria, who has four Ligue 1 Uber Eats titles and five Coupe de France successes to his name, signed an improved one-year contract extension in March, with the option of a second year

"Choosing Paris was the best decision of my life," said Di Maria in an exclusive interview with Téléfoot. "Therefore, I made the decision to both extend my contract here, and for my family and I to remain in Paris. I have one season left, if I have a good season and if everything goes well, I will speak with Leonardo [PSG sporting Director] to see if we can stay for a further season."

Despite the additions of Kylian Mbappé, Neymar and most recently Lionel Messi, Di Maria still finds himself as a regular in the PSG starting line-up but the 2021 Copa America winner accepts that competition is always fierce at a club like PSG.

"Competition for places will always be tough and even more so with these three players in front of you. You have to work and try to do the best you can to give yourself the chance to play, after that, it's the coach who decides."

When asked if the Neymar-Mbappé-Messi trio can work to its full potential, Di Maria replied "Yes. These are three exceptional players. There are two who continue to grow and will try to win the Ballon d'Or in the future and the other is the greatest.

An honour to play with Messi

The former Real Madrid man spoke of his joy at having Lionel Messi as his team mate following the six-time Ballon d'Or recipient's move to PSG in the summer.

"To be able to play with Messi at club level was one of the things missing from my career objectives. He has always been the best player in the world. What he does on the pitch and in training is incredible, nobody can do what he does. He is unique and we must take advantage of this time we have with him at PSG.

Record breaker

Di Maria broke Safet Susic's record as the club's all-time assist maker in May's Coupe de France final against Monaco and admits it is something he is incredibly proud of.

"When I knew I was getting close to the assists record, reaching this milestone and then surpassing it was the only thing on my mind. I finally got there and it filled me with pride because my name is now associated with the history of the club."
