Golovin has endured a stop-start campaign in 2021/22, hip complaints restricting him to just seven of a possible 18 starts in Ligue 1 Uber eats, although his recent return to action has coincided with a fine run for Niko Kovac's side.

Monaco may begin the eighth on 26 points, but they were undefeated in five league games before running into leaders Paris Saint-Germain last time out, former Monaco man Kylian Mbappé grabbing both goals in a 2-0 win for the capital club the Sunday before last.

Ben Yedder brace

The principality side got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over third-tier Red Star F.C. in the Coupe de France on Sunday, though, with Wissam Ben Yedder bagging a brace of his own. Alexander Nübel, Youssouf Fofana and Sofiane Diop were among those rested, and Kovac has promised a full-strength side against Rennes.

"Red Star played very well and were very focused, hitting the bar twice," he said. "We took them very seriously and met our obligation. Aleksandr Golovin came off at half-time as a precaution because he had discomfort in his thigh, but we'll have a good team on Wednesday."

Fàbregas sidelined

Kevin Volland is likely to get Golovin's spot as the closest player to striker Ben Yedder, while groin, hamstring and knee injuries respectively mean the coach is unable to call upon Cesc Fàbregas, Benoît Badiashile or Krépin Diatta.

Rennes are five places and points better off than their hosts, although the Bretons' league form has stuttered in recent weeks, with two losses from their last three outings. Bruno Génésio's side lost 2-1 to OGC Nice the Sunday before last but know a win could lift them up to second, provided Olympique de Marseille slip up to Stade de Reims.

Reims also got back to winning ways in the Coupe de France on Saturday, beating relegation-threatened FC Lorient 1-0 thanks to Warmed Omari's first goal for the club, although goalkeeper Romain Salin had to come off after 34 minutes.

Omari shining

"Omari opening his account was important, especially for a defender," Génésio said. "It's a reward for his consistent performances. I'm happy for him. Salin injured his calf, the kind of injury that takes a little while, but Dogan Alemdar will come in. We'll take stock before Monaco, but he was a No.1 in Turkey."

Alfred Gomis is likely to be restored in goal in any case, but there will be no quick returns for Jérémy Doku (knee), Flavien Tait (thigh) or Birger Meling (groin). Jonas Martin and Baptiste Santamaria are both a booking away from suspension, but likely to make up two of the midfield three alongside Lovro Majer.

Possible teams

Monaco: Nübel; Sidibé, Disasi, Maripán, Henrique; Fofana, Tchouaméni; Martins, Volland, Diop; Ben Yedder

Rennes: Gomis; Traoré, Omari, Aguerd, Truffert; Majer, Martin, Santamaria; Bourigaud, Laborde, Sulemana
