Lyon welcome Lille to the Groupama Stadium with both teams struggling to live up to last season's exploits, which saw them finish fourth and as Ligue 1 Uber Eats champions respectively.

OL are eighth in the table on 38 points, although only two points from Stade Rennais FC who occupy the fifth and final European place. They were disappointed to lose to RC Lens last time out, Tino Kadewere scoring to cancel out Jonathan Clauss's opener, but had won three of the previous four before that.

Winds of change

Coach Peter Bosz has overhauled the team somewhat since the turn of the year. Xherdan Shaqiri has been allowed to leave for Chicago Fire, while Jérôme Boateng has been dropped, with Brazilian midfielder Thiago Mendes filling in a at centre-back.

But perhaps the most notable difference has been the change in system, with Bosz playing a 4-2-3-1 instead of a 3-4-2-1, meaning space for only one N0.10 and not two. That is a particular battle between Paqueta and Aouar that the former has thus far wo

"It's for sure his best position," Bosz said of the seven-goal Brazilian, who has played some of this season as a striker. "He has all the qualities to play in attack, good in front of goal, good at holding the ball up, and also his state of mind. When he's in form he can carry us. Houssem's best position is at No.10, I understand that. Everyone wants to play and it's up to them to prove they can. It remains subjective and these are my choices."

Injury list

Lyon remain without Jason Denayer due to an ankle injury, so youngster Castello Lukeba will partner Mendes at centre-back. The attack-minded Rayan Cherki (broken metatarsal) and Lenny Pintor (ruptured cruciate ligament) are also missing.

Champions Lille, like Lyon, would have been hoping for better this season. Les Dogues are three places and two points worse off than their hosts ahead of Sunday's meeting. They were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, and had dropped eight of a possible 12 points in the league before that.

Watch: Highlights of Lille's goalless draw with Metz

Last Friday's goalless draw with FC Metz looked particularly toothless, and although LOSC were beaten by the European champions in midweek, Bosz's opposite number Jocelyn Gourvennec thought his side looked better in London than they had at in northern France.

"We were obviously disappointed to lose by two goals," he said. "We weren't outclassed, they scored from a corner and a beautifully-worked counter. We touched the ball just as often as they did.

'Have to believe'

"Chelsea will always be a big team. But anything can happen in football. The second leg will be difficult in front of our fans, in a full stadium in three weeks, but who knows? We have to believe in our chances."

LOSC have a clean bill of health as they look to record a much-needed domestic win before that. Renato Sanches and Tiago Djalo are both one booking away from a suspension, but each could feature on Sunday.

Lyon: Lopes; Dubois, Mendes, Lukeba, Emerson; Caqueret, Ndombélé; Faivre, Paqueta, Toko Ekambi; Dembélé
