Sanchez signed a one-year contract with OM after leaving Inter, and the 33-year-old cannot wait to pull on the blue-and-white shirt, which could happen for the first time in Sunday's Round 2 encounter in Brittany.

"OM has a really great history. They're the only French club to have won the Champions League and were French champions about 10 years ago. I'm here to win," said the Chile international, who will bring his top-level experience to the squad's UEFA Champions League group stage campaign.

"Playing in the Champions League is always great. Playing in France is a personal challenge. I've played in Italy, Spain and England. I don't know if you know [his Inter teammate and former Brest player] Lucien Agoumé, but he talked to me a lot about OM. I said to myself why not come here."

Sanchez's last competitive appearance was only a handful of minutes in a Serie A match for Inter on 15 May. He did go through pre-season training with the club he helped to the Italian title in 2020/21, however, so is likely to start on the bench in Brest where he will also get a further taste of the OM fans' passion for their club.

"I'm very happy with the supporters' welcome. They love their club and are passionate. I hope to repay that on the pitch," he said. "I feel good. I trained with Inter. Perhaps I need some more work with the ball, but physically, I feel good."

Sanchez joins Igor Tudor's squad in the wake of their 4-1 defeat of Stade de Reims on Sunday. Pape Gueye and Duje Caleta-Car both missed the game through suspension, but will be available to return at the Stade Francis Le Blé where OM will hope to add to their league-leading haul of 22 away points in 2022.

"I'm happy with his good and deserved win," Tudor, who replaced Jorge Sampaoli in July, said after watching an own-goal and strikes from new signings Nuno Tavares and Luis Suarez give him three points on his debut. "We played well in the first half, pressing well and playing with intensity. We really worked very well. In the second half, it wasn't quite as good, but it's still a handsome win and I must compliment my players."

Brest were beaten 3-2 in their opening match of the season, but they had been 3-0 down at Lens before Haris Belkebla and Romain Del Castillo — with his first goal for the club since joining from Rennes last summer — gave Michel der Zakarian's side hope of picking up a point.

"When we got back to 3-2, we believed we could do it," said the Brest coach, who was without Finland international defender Jere Uronen and forward Steve Mounié for the trip north.

"We needed to handle better everything that had happened before, play better, to not be 3-0 down. In the first 15 minutes, we defended well, but we weren't good technically. Some of the players were transparent — it's tough to win games when you have players who don't play to their best."
