LOSC midfielder Rémy Cabella thinks that Nantes goalkeeper Alban Lafont should be called up for France after another sterling performance from the latter when the teams met on Friday night.

Lille dominated Nantes at their Stade de la Beaujoire, having 16 attempts on their opponents' goal. Unfortunately for them, though, Lafont was in typically miserly mood, and his saves laid the platform for the hosts to earn a 1-1 draw.

For Cabella, who won four France caps in 2014 when at Newcastle United, there is no better French goalkeeper out there than the 23-year-old former under-21 international.

"Before I shot, I saw that he was anticipating my strike," he said after Moses Simon and Ismaily had exchanged goals. "With his quality, he deserves to be in the France team. There have been good season's and now he's a monster. I congratulate him."

Born in the Burkinabé capital Ouagadougou in January 1999, Lafont has since ranked up 36 youth international caps with France, but he has yet to be called up to the senior squad by Didier Deschamps.

Lafont averaged three saves per game in 2021/22 and saved nearly half of the penalty kicks he faced, suffice to say Nantes might have been in relegation trouble and not finishing ninth and winning the Coupe de France without him.
