Terem Moffi was on target again for this season's surprise team Lorient to edge closer to Neymar and Kylian Mbappé in the scoring charts.
Moffi netted his sixth goal of the season in Lorient's comfortable 3-1 win at Auxerre to move Régis Le Bris' side into the lofty heights of third.
Moffi closed the gap on the Paris Saint-Germain duo with both Neymar (8 goals) and Mbappé (7 goals) unable to find the net in the champions' 1-0 win at Lyon.
A brace from Mama Baldé helped Troyes to a 3-1 win at Clermont to move Bruno Irles' men into tenth place. Baldé's double took him to five goals for the season - a fantastic early-season return for the Guinea-Bissau international.
LOSC striker Jonathan David found the net in superb fashion to set his side on their way to a 2-1 win over Toulouse.
David produced a moment of individual brilliance to fire LOSC in front after five minutes. The goal was the Canadian striker's fifth of the season so far.
Lionel Messi scored his fourth goal of the season in PSG's narrow victory at Lyon. Messi finished off a fine team move to net the only goal of the game and extend the champions' advantage at the top of the table
Dango Ouattara also scored his fourth goal of the season during Lorient's win at Auxerre. The Burkina Faso international has been in tremendous form for Les Merlus and has now scored in each of his last four games.
The race for the top scorer crown will be on hold for a couple of weeks as the international break takes centre stage.
Round 9 will see Paris Saint-Germain stars Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi take on Nice, whilst Lorient and Terem Moffi take on LOSC and Jonathan David. Meanwhile, Lens pair Florian Sotoca and Lois Openda will hope to get back to scoring ways when they host a Lyon side consisting of Tete and Alexandre Lacazette.
