Portugal midfielder Xeka, a 2021 French champion with Lille, joined Stade Rennais on Wednesday for two seasons, until 2024. The Brittany club is thus compensating for the long-term injury to Baptiste Santamaria.
Without a club since the end of his contract at Lille on 30 June, Xeka joined Stade Rennais on Wednesday, signing a two-season deal with Bruno Genesio's side.

Following Baptiste Santamaria's serious left ankle injury in the 5-0 win over Auxerre on 11 September, the club began looking for a replacement and set their sights on the Portuguese, who helped LOSC to pip PSG to the Ligue 1 Uber Eats title in 2020.
"The club needed to strengthen following Baptiste's injury," commented Olivier Cloarec, Stade Rennais' executive chairman and general manager. "We are therefore very happy to welcome Xeka to our squad."

Xeka arrived in Lille in January 2017 and made 144 appearances in all competitions for LOSC.
