France star Clauss praised after Marseille masterclass

France right-back Jonathan Clauss had a goal and two assists as Olympique de Marseille beat Angers SCO 3-0 on Friday night.

Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares was suspended for the game, and Sead Kolasinac had been expected to fill in on the left-hand side.

 

Bit instead, Igor Tudor went with the Manchester City-owned Issa Kaboré on the right flank with Clauss switching sides.

 

The result was a masterclass from the French international, who smashed the opener in off the post on 35 minutes before turning provider for Luis Suarez and then Gerson early in the second half.


"He's an incredible player," enthused Marseille manager Igor Tudor. "I knew it from the first time I saw him. And he's a good boy. It's a pleasure to be his coach."

 

Clauss was a relatively late addition do Didier Deschamp's France set-up, earning his first international cap at 29, but he started the last two UEFA Nations League games against Austria and Denmark.

 

"It encourages me to say that I'm on the right track," said Clauss. "The most important thing is that I keep it up. I was lucky be playing for France. It's been good for my confidence."
