Fourth in the table as recently as Round 6, Lyon have been in freefall in recent weeks, losing each of their last four games to, in order, FC Lorient, AS Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and RC Lens.

It has been a brutal run of fixtures: Lorient are up in third as this season's primary surprise package, Monaco and Lens are both aiming for European football next year and PSG are PSG, the champions and league leaders who are purring under Christophe Galtier.

Busy medical bay

Bosz hasn't been helped by lengthening injury list which now includes Corentin Tolisso, Romain Faivre and Moussa Dembélé among others, but the Dutch head coach wasn't in the mood for excuses ahead of Friday's meeting with Toulouse.

"I'm not used to losing four games in a row, especially at a big club," said the Dutch head coach. "This job's easy when you're winning, when you don't it's different but that's also part of my job. We've lost four games now, not one. It's simple: we must win against Toulouse."

Tolisso and Faivre could return from a thigh strain and dead leg respectively, but they are touch and go, and also joined on the sidelines by Castello Lukeba (thigh), Malo Gusto (knock), the aforementioned Dembélé (thigh) as well as back-up goalkeeper Julian Pollersbeck, who has undergone knee surgery.

"We don't have to change things for the sake of it," said Bosz. "But everyone's very disappointed. We have to communicate, train well, and then show what we can do on the pitch. We simply have to win this game."

Nothing Toulouse?

Toulouse are five places but now only two points off Lyon, and they might not be the easiest opponents for les Dogues to re-find their bite against.

Last season's Ligue 2 BKT champions have won two of their last three Ligue 1 Uber Eats games, and thrashed Montpellier Hérault SC 4-2 in their most recent match last Sunday, with Zakaria Aboukhlal grabbing a goal and an assist at the Stadium de Toulouse.

Bosz's opposite number Philippe Montanier has moved from a 5-4-1 to a 4-3-3 of late, with Aboukhlal in particular thriving with his greater license to attack, but the coach singled out the recipient of his assist against Montpellier, Brecht Dejaegere, for particular praise.

"The players must always be ready, and that's what Brecht does very well," he said of the Belgian midfielder. "He had a big week of training. Just because you don't play a game or two doesn't mean you won't start the next one. Brecht had a very good game.

A leader on the pitch

"Brecht has a real tactical awareness. He's one of the leaders I rely upon. He's a real footballer with tactical quality and having this kind of conduit for the coach is a real comfort."

Dejaegere should make up a three-man midfield with Stijn Spierings and Branco van den Boomen once again, then, with the only likely change an enforced one. Right-back Mikel Desler is suspended, so youngster Kévin Keben could come in. English striker Rhys Healey is a long-term absentee with a ruptured cruciate ligament.

Possible teams

Lyon: Lopes; Henrique, Mendes, Diomandé, Tagliafico; Lepenant, Caqueret; Tetê, Cherki, Toko Ekambi; Lacazette

Toulouse: Dupé; Keben, Rouault, Nicolaisen, Sylla; Dejaegere, Spierings, Van den Boomen; Aboukhlal, Dallinga, Chaïbi
