The 57-year-old technician has signed a two-season contract (plus an option for another) to become head coach of AJ Auxerre, currently 18th in Ligue 1 Uber Eats.

Former FC Lorient coach Christophe Pélissier is the new coach of AJ Auxerre, succeeding Jean-Marc Furlan, who was sacked on 11 October, the Burgundy club announced on Wednesday.

Christophe Pélissier, 57, previously coached Luzenac, Amiens and FC Lorient, with whom he was crowned Ligue 2 BKT champion in 2019-20.

With Pélissier, AJ Auxerre, promoted this season, have recruited a technician adept at playing forward, who has often been able to get the best out of his squad at the clubs he has coached.

The former Muret player in the National (1990-1995), in particular, distinguished himself on the bench of Luzenac, before helping Amiens to climb two seasons in a row from the National to Ligue 2 (2016) and then from Ligue 2 to Ligue 1 (2017), to level at which the Picardy club managed to stick around for two years in a row (2018, 2019).

Christophe Pélissier is known for his ability to keep his teams in the top flight, a feat he has achieved on four occasions.

Pélissier and his staff

The club also said that Jean-Marie Stephanopoli (assistant coach) and Olivier Lagarde (goalkeeper coach) will accompany Christophe Pélissier and join the technical staff.

Christophe Pélissier will make his debut on the Auxerre bench when they host AC Ajaccio on Sunday at 13:00.
