Didier Deschamps has signed a new contract with France which will take him up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Deschamps has been France manager since 2012 when he succeeded his former teammate Laurent Blanc in the role, and led les Bleus to World Cup glory in 2018.

Speculation about his future was rife before the 2022 winter edition in Qatar, but Deschamps led his side to the final, where they were edged on penalties by Lionel Messi's Argentina.

The French Football Federation have been delighted with the 54-year-old's contribution, and he has been rewarded with his three-and-a-half year extension.

Deschamps' assistant coach Guy Stéphan has also extended his stay with les Bleus, as have goalkeeper coach Franck Raviot and physical trainer Cyril Moine.

France had six current Ligue 1 Uber Eats players in their squad in Qatar, with Paris Saint-Germain's star man Kylian Mbappé joined by Olympique de Marseille pair Mattéo Guendouzi nd Jordan Veretout, AS Monaco duo Youssouf Fofana and Axel Disasi, and veteran goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, now of Stade Rennais FC.
