Right-back Frédéric Guilbert has left EPL side Aston Villa for former club Strasbourg, while Nantes have nabbed midfielder Florent Mollet from Schalke and promising young left-back Jaouen Hadjam from second-tier Paris FC.
FC Nantes have signed right-back Frédéric Guilbert from English club Aston Villa. The 28-year-old former Caen man is returning to a club he has already been with, having spent the last two seasons on loan there, in the first half of 2021, and last season, which saw him finish sixth in Ligue 1 Uber Eats.
"Frédéric Guilbert, transferred on a free, is therefore preparing to write the third page of his history in blue and white and to return to a Meinau stadium where he is very popular," Racing said in a statement that did not specify the duration of the contract signed.
Eight months later, he is back with an Alsatian side that has been struggling but which finally extricated itself from the relegation zone with a 2-1 win at Lyon on Saturday night, three days after an encouraging 2-2 draw at Le Meinau against RC Lens, second in the league.
Two reinforcements for FC Nantes
Florent Mollet returns to Ligue 1 Uber Eats! FC Nantes announced on Tuesday that they have reached an agreement with FC Schalke 04 for the permanent transfer of the attacking midfielder. The 31-year-old former Montpellier Herault SC player has committed himself until 2025. Having left France for Germany last summer, the Dijon FCO academy product is already making his return to Ligue 1 Uber Eats after just one goal and nine appearances in the Bundesliga.
"The new number 25 of the Yellow and Green will bring all his experience [293 professional games] to Antoine Kombouare's group," said FC Nantes on their official website.
"I am very happy to be here, to join FC Nantes, my new teammates and the staff," said Mollet on the club's website. "I think we're going to have some good times. FC Nantes has a special place in French football. I am really happy to join a legendary club and I hope that we can all achieve great things together. Dear supporters, see you soon at La Beaujoire!"
PSG academy alumnus
In the meantime, the club from western France bagged a second recruit in the form of Jaouen Hadjam. The 19-year-old left-back has signed for FCN from Paris FC until 2027. The French U20 international landed at the Parisian club in 2018 after a junior career with SFC Champagne 95 (2009-2011), US Alfortville (2011-2014), Paris Saint-Germain (2014-2015) and US Créteil Lusitanos (2015-2018). He will wear the number 26 and will be tasked with covering for the injured Quentin Merlin (adductor).
