Folarin Balogun topped off a sensational week by firing a hat-trick for Reims in their 4-2 win over Lorient, to climb to the top of the scoring charts.

Balogun came into Round 21 off the back of his last-gasp equaliser against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday and was in no mood to dwell on his Parc des Princes heroics.

His first came from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time, keeping his cool to reduce the arrears after Lorient had raced into a two-goal lead.

Balogun netted his second of the evening, reacting first to a loose ball to put Will Still's men in front.

He only had to wait three-more minutes to claim the match ball and it was the pick of the bunch. A superb volley past Lorient 'keeper Vito Mannone. The Hat-trick took his season total to 14 goals.

Building momentum

Wissam Ben Yedder netted his 12th goal of the season in Monaco's 3-2 win at home to Auxerre. The 32-year-old opened the scoring in the 11th minute for the principality side with a tidy finish.

Breel Embolo was also on target at the Stade Louis II, firing into the roof of the net from close range, to register his tenth goal of the campaign.

Classy finish

Lionel Messi scored his ninth goal of the season in Paris Saint-Germain's 3-1 win at Montpellier.

Messi's cheeky finish helped Christophe Galtier's side get back to winning ways after a period of indifferent form by the champions' high standards.

Amine Gouiri's first-half double handed Rennes a comfortable 3-0 win over Strasbourg at Roazhon Park.

The Frenchman's opener came in the third minute when his deflected effort beat Strasbourg shot-stopper Matz Sels.

He struck his second of the night just 18-minutes later to put Rennes in the ascendancy against their relegation-threatened opponents.

Next up…

Round 22 kicks off this weekend with Toulouse's trip to Paris Saint-Germain. The reigning champions will hope to have 12-goal Neymar fit again but Kylian Mbappé could miss the chance to leapfrog Balogun in the standings after he limped off against Montpellier.

Jonathan David will hope to get back to scoring form after two games without a goal when LOSC travel to Rennes, while Clermont face double trouble when Ben Yedder and Embolo come to town with Monaco.

All eyes will be on Balogun to see if he can sustain his excellent run of form when Reims visit Auxerre.
