Paris Saint-Germain Football Advisor Luis Campos has admitted that the capital club are working hard to extend Lionel Messi's contract beyond the end of this season.

Messi bagged his 10th goal of the current Ligue 1 Uber Eats campaign on Saturday as PSG beat Toulouse FC 2-1, curling home a trademark finish after being teed up by Achraf Hakimi on the edge of the box.

Alongside his 10 assists, the recent World Cup winner with Argentina has 20 goal-involvements plundered at a rate of one every 79 minutes he has played in the French top flight this term.

Signed on a free transfer from Barcelona in the summer of 2021, Messi is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, and his former employers remain public in their admiration of him. Campos and Co. have no intention of seeing him leave, though.

"We're in discussions [over a new contract]. I can't hide that," the former LOSC sporting director told TF1. "I'd like to have him in this project, that he can continue with us.

"I'd be delighted if he continues, but we're discussing that at the moment to try to achieve our goal, to continue to have Leo Messi with us."

Messi wasn't one of the players upgraded to depute captain behind Marquinhos last month, with Kylian Mbappé, Sergio Ramos and Marco Verratti seeing their roles expended by Christophe Galtier, but Messi remains a leader on the pitch.

"At half-time, I said to him 'Leo, you have to take all the others with you'," he said of Wednesday's 3-1 win at Montpellier Hérault SC, in which Messi also scored. "He said 'tranquillo' ['stay calm'] and had an exceptional second half."
