Jean-Clair Todibo remains optimistic Nice can pick up a European qualifying place this season despite the rocky start to the 2022/23 campaign.

Lucien Favre was replaced by Didier Digard as coach following a three-game winless run in the league and a damaging defeat to amateur opponents in the Coupe de France.

Digard's first game in charge on Wednesday saw Nice swamp Montpellier 6-1, but the victory — only their sixth from 18 Ligue 1 Uber Eats games — still left the club down in 10th place, ten points from a European place.

"We mustn't get stuck on the league position and we have to keep going," said Todibo. "You can go on a run of wins at any time and then suddenly you're closing on those who are not in such good form.

"We'll see what comes at the end of the season, and if we only finish sixth or seventh, we'll say that our start to the season was the problem. We're not even halfway through and you don't know what can happen."
