Alexis Sanchez is out of contract with Olympique de Marseille in June, but he would like nothing more than extend his stay at the Orange Vélodrome beyond the summer.

Former Arsenal star Alexis has arguably played his best football since his Gunners heyday this season - even if he won Serie A with Inter Milan in 2021 - hitting 12 goals in 25 Ligue 1 Uber Eats games.

The Chilean, who also won consecutive Copa Americas with his nation in 2015 and 2016, turned 34 in December, but after helping OM up to second in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats table, he feels he has done enough to stay.

"I see things one year at a time," he told 24 Horas on TVN Chile. "I have a one-year contract in Marseille. It also depends on how I feel physically. Would I like to extend? Yes. But in football there are a lot of possibilities, it can change from day to day. Real Madrid or other teams can arrive, we don't know.

"[But] I'm happy and content in Marseille, I love the fans. The club trusts and takes care of me, and when that happens, you just have to prove yourself. I would make a mistake if I slacked off. Consistency in football is the hardest thing to achieve. I'm a person who says what he thinks. I'm transparent. The Marseille leaders now know what they have to do."
