The 2022/23 season confirmed what we already knew – Ligue 1 Uber Eats is blessed with some of Europe's most promising attacking talent.

An overriding memory from a memorable season was the blistering pace at which goals were flying in, with 34 goals scored across the opening round of fixtures.

It gradually got better too. With 32 goals in Round 2, 38 in Round 3 and 33 in Round 4, the tone was already set for a prolific campaign in front of goal.

Even the World Cup break did our leading marksmen no harm as Ligue 1 Uber Eats' hotshots set the pace in the top scorers chart.

Not since the 1978/79 campaign was this season's feat of six players registering in excess of 20 league goals achieved. Moreover, it was not replicated in any of Europe's top-five leagues this term.

Super six

Step forward Kylian Mbappé, Alexandre Lacazette, Jonathan David, Loïs Openda, Habib Diallo and Folarin Balogun who all fired superb totals for their respective clubs.

The race to be top scorer was far from a procession for players from the league's best performing clubs with the source of the goals shared throughout the table.

From title-winning forward Kylian Mbappé to Habib Diallo whose prolific campaign fired Strasbourg to top-flight survival in Round 37, the goals just kept on coming.

Mbappé scooped the top prize for the fifth year in a row on the way to helping Paris Saint-Germain claim a historic 11th league crown. But the 24-year-old did not have it all his own way despite another fabulous tally of 29 goals.

Returning hero Lacazette was in scintillating form for Lyon, netting 27 goals for the seven-time French champions.

Lyon's seventh-placed finish would have looked much different without his goals particularly in his last 11 games where he scored 13 times.

Much improved

LOSC's David boasted his best Ligue 1 Uber Eats return with 24 goals.

As he did the previous season, David got himself off the mark in quick fashion with nine goals in his opening 11 fixtures.

But unlike the 2021/22 campaign when he scored just three times in the second half of the season, David added a more sustained goal threat through the business end of the season, to fire LOSC to Europa Conference League qualification.

Diallo's incredible 20-goal haul for Strasbourg - who only confirmed top flight survival last week - was another impressive return.

The Senegalese international once again delivered the goods and proved the importance a reliable goalscorer can have on a survival bid.

Diallo's numbers are all the more impressive considering Strasbourg averaged four shots on target per game this season, more than filling in for Ludovic Ajorque who departed in January.

Openda's first season in France has seen his 21 goals fire Lens to the Champions League for the first time since the 2002/03 season.

Meanwhile, Balogun used his loan spell at Reims to reignite his career after notching an impressive 21 goals this term.

It represents a major shift in the attacking prowess of France's top flight, which was once categorised as one of Europe's lowest scoring leagues.

However, a mixture of loan signings, up and coming talent, returning heroes and a World Cup winner has elevated the level of attacking talent on show.

At a time when the conventional striker has become a dying breed, French football proves that there is still room for pure goalscorers in a climate which has seen strikers' roles become more multi- faceted.

And with strikers excelling regardless of their teams fortunes, Ligue 1 Uber Eats proved just why it really is the league of talents.
