Désiré Doué is the first player born in 2005 to score in any of Europe's five major leagues per UEFA coefficient. What else is there to know about the latest player off the Stade Rennais FC production line?

Rennes boast one of the most impressive youth systems in France, if not the world, with Ousmane Dembélé, Eduardo Camavinga and Mathys Tel among its recent graduates, and Doué already looks to be on a similar trajectory to that trio, who now line up for Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich respectively.

Doué scored his first Ligue 1 Uber Eats goal in Rennes' 3-1 win over Stade Brestois 29 in Round 5 just two months past his 17th birthday and bagged his second French top-flight strike in the Derby Breton win over FC Nantes last Sunday.

Both were screamers…

Back story:

Born in Angers on 3 June 2005, Doué grew up in a footballing family. Big brother Guéla is a right-back on Rennes' books, although yet to make his first-team debut, cousin Yann Gboho is now at Cercle Brugge having broken through at les Rouge et Noir three years ago, while his uncle Ambroise used to play for Rennes' reserves.

Needless to say, the younger Doué was drawn to the sport from an early age, joining Rennes' academy at the age of five, and he has raced through their age group teams since. Eligible to play for Côte d'Ivoire through parentage, Doué has thus far turned out for France, helping les Bleuets to UEFA European Under-17 Championship glory in June.

Style of play:

Rennes' No.33 dons the No.10 jersey with France, and he is every bit the modern-day attacking midfielder, an asset to his teams on both sides of the ball.

Out of possession, he works hard to win it back and has an impressive sense of anticipation and timing; in it, his control, awareness and distribution are a sight to behold, whilst he is fast proving his ability to break into the box and score - off both feet too.

Current campaign:

Doué was handed his Rennes debut on the opening day, replacing Flavien Tait for the final 20 minutes of a 1-0 loss to this season's surprise package FC Lorient. He has since featured in nine games - three of them starts - tallying goals in those victories against Brest and Nantes.

In between those strikes, he also scored the winning goal for Rennes against Dinamo Kyiv in UEFA Europa League Group B, becoming the youngest French scorer in the competition's history at the tender age of 17 years, four months and four days of age.

What they said:

"Every time he comes on he brings great energy and intensity. Of course he has plenty to work on, but he's open to advice and progressing well. At the end of last season we decided to give him a chance in the senior squad. What's great is that he's progressing quicker than we would've expected. It's positive. Now he has to keep his feet on the ground and keep doing what he's doing. If he does, he has a great future ahead of him!"

- Rennes coach Bruno Génésio speaking to the Ligue 1 Show on beIN SPORTS.

“To hear the final whistle and to say to ourselves that we're European champions, it's extraordinary. All the pressure falls away and it's only happiness, we jump everywhere. It's the best moment."

- Doué on being crowned a European champion this summer.

"Physically, he is already equipped. He reads the game very well. Technically, right foot and even left foot, he's complete, with good control on both. Away from the pitch he's a dream. Easy, calm, with a streak of leadership whilst still asking for advice. He's both care-free and conscientious in his work. He's already a pro in his head."

- Génésio later waxing lyrical after Doué had exceeded expectations.
