Fabian Ruiz has hit the ground running since swapping Napoli for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, but what else is there to know about the Spanish midfielder?

PSG bolstered their midfield significantly this summer, signing Vitinha, Renato Sanches and Carlos Soler as well as Fabian, but the former Napoli man has managed to shine despite also having Marco Verratti for company in the champions' engine room.

Fabian has featured in eight games in all competitions, helping Paris to the top of League 1 Uber Eats as well as UEFA Champions League Group H. If his previous career is anything to go by, silverware is sure to follow.

Back story:

Born in Los Palacios y Villafranca, a province of Seville, on 3 April 1996, the young Ruiz - who now sports his first name Fabian on his jersey - joined local side Real Betis' youth academy at the age of eight and raced through their age group teams.

The midfielder, who quickly filled his 6'2" frame, made his first-team debut in December 2014 at the age of 18 and helped Betis to La Liga promotion at the end of his first campaign. After a loan with Elche he became a first-team regular at the Estadio Benito Villamarin before moving to Napoli for €30 million in July 2018.

Italy is where Fabian's talent truly exploded. He won the Coppa Italia in 2020 and really added a cutting edge to his game last season, contributing seven goals and five assists in all competitions as Napoli finished third in Serie A, qualifying for the Champions League.

Style of play:

Fabian may be a physically imposing 6'2" midfielder but he tends to let the ball do the work for him, with his lofted diagonal passes for onrushing forwards a sight to behold. He has completed 90 per cent of his passes over the last year, despite an average of five per game being progressive ones.

His ability to find space on the edge of the opposition box and finish, sometimes first-time, from range, as the key to last season's goal record, meanwhile.

Current campaign:

Fabian joined PSG for just €21.5m in August, the French champions getting a good deal on a player whose contract was due to expire next summer.

He made his Ligue 1 Uber Eats debut in Round 7, replacing Verrati for the final half-hour of a 1-0 win over Stade Brestois 29, and also came off the bench for his first Champions League game for PSG - a 3-1 win at Maccabi Haifa four days later.

Paris head coach has recently implemented a 4-3-3 formation, and Fabian is beginning to start games more regularly alongside Verratti and Vitinha, most recently helping his side to a 1-0 win over Olympique de Marseille in le Classique.

What they said:

"Once the offer arrived, which we all thought was good, you couldn't say no to a club like PSG… I spoke with Luis Campos who explained the project to me. Later I also spoke with coach Galtier, who explained his way of playing, and his ideas. Those conversations were very nice, they gave me confidence, that desire to be here with them, to work together."

- Fabian on making the move to PSG.

"He's a player that I view with great affection, and he's developed immensely. Not only is he a great player but he') also a very humble boy."
