Olympique Lyonnais have bolstered their squad with the winter acquisitions of Bruno Guimaraes and Karl Toko Ekambi, but who else has been coming and going in the French top flight?
Join Ligue1.com as we take a look at the top five arrivals in this January transfer window…
Bruno Guimaraes (Athletico Paranaense to Lyon)
Position: Defensive midfielder
Age: 22
Country: Brazil (U23 cap)/Spain
Lyon reportedly fended off fierce competition from Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Benfica to sign defensive midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who will meet up with his new teammates in February once he is finished trying to help Brazil qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics Japan next summer.
The clamour for his signature was understandable. Just two full seasons into his senior career with Brazilian outfit Athletico Paranaense, Guimaraes has already hoovered up the Campeonato Paranaense, Copa Sudamericana, J.League Cup/Copa Sudamericana Championship titles and a Copa do Brasil. A combination of steel and silk in the middle of the park, more trophies could follow for OL once Guimaraes is on board.
Aurélien Tchouaméni (Bordeaux to Monaco)
Position: Central midfielder
Age: 20
Country: France (U19 cap)/Cameroon
Another complete midfielder, Aurélien Tchouaméni has the ability to nip at attackers' ankles and win possession back as well and being able to then ping the ball across the field with laser-sighted long distribution. Girondins de Bordeaux have had an up-and-down season so far, but Tchouaméni's level has been consistently high.
That Monaco have seen fit to make him the most expensive domestic signing of this winter window when they already have Aleksandr Golovin, Tiémoué Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas on their books is testament to his talent. A captain with the French international youth teams, perhaps he will one day lead the principality side out too?
Karl Toko Ekambi (Villarreal to Lyon)
Position: Centre forward/left winger
Age: 29
Country: Cameroon (30 caps/goals)/France
A familiar face to followers of Ligue 1 Conforama, Karl Toko Ekambi is back in the French top-flight on loan with Lyon having spent the last two seasons with Villarreal in Spain. The owner of 26 French top-flight goals in his last two seasons with Angers SCO, Toko Ekambi managed similar numbers in La Liga, scoring 24 times across the two campaigns since.
Toko Ekambi's quick feet and rangy frame are conducive to playing as either a central striker or a winger. With Lyon having flitted between two-and three-man attacks this season, and with Memphis Depay and Jeff Reine-Adélaïde injured, the popular Cameroon international could prove to be exactly what Rudi Garcia's side have needed.
Riza Durmisi (Lazio to Nice)
Position: Left-back/left midfielder
Age: 26
Country: Denmark (22 caps)/Albania/Macedonia
A tricky left sider with a low centre of gravity, Durmisi broke through at Brondby before leaving for Real Betis having pipped a certain Daniel Agger to the club's Player of the Year award in 2016. A nailed-on starter for the Spaniards, his career stalled somewhat after joining Lazio two years later with club legend Senad Lulic in his way.
A Denmark regular, Durmisi still looks undefendable on his day, though, and with Racine Coly having been loaned out to Portuguese outfit FC Famalicao, he will compete with Stanley Nsoki for a spot on the left of Patrick Vieira's favoured 4-3-3 formation. Durmisi's versatility means he could play instead of or in front of the former Paris Saint-Germain man, and it would be little surprise if Nice exercise their option to buy at the end of his six-month loan.
Majeed Waris (Porto to Strasbourg)
Position: Striker
Age: 28
Nationality: Ghana (31 caps/4 goals)
Another striker returning to Ligue 1 Conforama, RC Strasbourg Alsace may have pulled off something of a coup in persuading Majeed Waris that his next step should be taken with them. Now with his eight club across five different countries, Waris has had an eclectic career, but at his best he is a feared attacking operator.
Highlights have included being the Swedish Allsvenskan Top Scorer in 2012 with Hacken and Portuguese Primeria Ligia winner last season with Porto, as well as the 11 Ligue 1 Conforama goals he managed in just 21 games with FC Lorient in 2015/16. Coupe de la Ligue holders Strasbourg have their own recent history with boom and bust, but both club and player will be hoping it's the former in the second half of the season.
