Paris Saint-Germain took another step towards clinching club football's top prize as they comfortably beat RB Leipzig 3-0 in their semi-final on Tuesday, Angel Di Maria starring with two assists and a goal in the historic win.

Paris Saint-Germain are in the UEFA Champions League final! For the first time in the club's 50-year history, the capita club have booked a berth in the continent's most prestigious fixture, and no-one can say they are undeserved of such status given the assured, accomplished performance Thomas Tuchel's men delivered in Lisbon on Tuesday night.

Tuchel: 'We deserved to win'

"It's incredible! We're here to play a final and to win," exclaimed Tuchel. "The team did very well. They showed their qualities; it was a good mix. And we deserved to win. Our plan was to stick to our principles, control spaces and use the speed of Di Maria, Mbappé and Ney. We don't have to adapt too much to the opponent, we have to show our strength. And the team has shown its hunger, and its desire to suffer together."

Di Maria: 'We're the ones who made them weak'

The German boss had the outstanding Di Maria - back after serving a suspension in the win over Atalanta - to thank for making sure the Parisians capitalised on their chances. The Argentine sent in a perfect free-kick for Marquinhos to head home uncontested (13') before turning scorer and beating Peter Gulacsi after Neymar - once again in scintillating form - had conjured  magical assist to play him through just before the break (42').

"We're very happy. We made history for the club. We're in the final, it's very important for us. We're the ones who made them weak," said Di Maria, who was also at the origin of PSG's third goal - a pin-point cross for Juan Bernat to score the first headed goal of his career (56'). "We played 100%. At the beginning it was 50-50 but we pushed on harder. It's going to be hard to sleep tonight. Now we're only one step away from making club history."

Mbappé: 'Care more about each other'

The fact that neither Neymar and Kylian Mbappé appeared on the scoresheet in a 3-0 win is a testament to the team spirit that Tuchel's men have developed - a topic that the latter - despite his reputation as being obsessed with scoring - was happy to broach.

"Neymar and I have been on the same wavelength from the start. We're having fun," said the World Champion, who is on the verge of having won all the footballing world's biggest trophies at just 21 years of age. "But we care less about our individual careers now. We've been able to create an environment where we care more about each other. We want to win with the whole team, not just the two of us. We've managed to create a tight-knit group. Everyone's doing their bit. That's how we won. It's easier to run for your teammate when you like him. Is this going to get us the win on Sunday? I don't know, but it can't hurt…"

As for PSG's opponents, it will be either tournament favourites Bayern Munich or Ligue 1 Uber Eats rivals Olympique Lyonnais, and Mbappé has a clear preference - but not for the reasons you might think.

"I have a preference for Lyon of course, a French club," he grinned. "If we don't value our league, who will? If it's Bayern, okay, but Lyon would have a special flavour."

Neymar: 'Let's go get the trophy!'

Meanwhile, Neymar took to Instagram to express his joy at how thing are going for PSG.

"Two years in a row, I've been injured in crucial, important moments for me and our team," wrote the Brazilian superstar, whose hitting the post early on signalled the end of Leipzig's resistance to PSG's pressure. "Today, I am whole, without injuries, and I can help my teammates in the best possible way. I'm happy, very very happy. We made history today, but we don't want to stop here. We want more. Let's go get the trophy, the big-eared cup. Paris en fête."

Al-Khelaifi: 'A dream come true'

And finally, the club's ambitious president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who has presided over his country's massive investment in the capital club, was understandable a very pleased man.

"It's an historic evening, our first time in the Champions League final. A magnificent evening!" he exclaimed. "The team played a perfect game against a difficult team. I am very proud, proud of my players and proud of my technical staff. We didn't want to go back to Paris, we wanted to stay in Lisbon. It's a dream come true. I hope it continues! We deserve it. Tonight, I don't know what to say. It's a wonderful evening for us."
