Olympique de Marseille's France midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi has touched down with Les Bleus in Qatar for the World Cup and is pinching himself as Didier Deschamps' men get ready to defend the world title they won in Russia four years ago.

Mattéo Guendouzi, 23, has really his his straps since swapping Arsenal and the EPL for Marseille and Ligue 1 Uber Eats and is riding the wave all the way to the World Cup!

The Marseille talisman caught Deschamps' eye with his fiery yet technically accomplished performances in France's top flight and earned his first call-up to France's senior team in 2019 - before making his debut two years later in a World Cup qualifier against Finland.

One door closes...

With a raft of injuries hitting the France squad before the tournament - notably midfielders Paul Pogba, N'Golo Kanté, Christopher Nkunku and Corentin Tolisso - Guendouzi stands an excellent chance of winning some minutes on the field in Qatar, and there is no doubt he will seize the opportunity should it present itself.

Les Bleus' first match of the World Cup is against Group D rivals Australia at 12:00 noon CET on Tuesday 22 November.
