LOSC Lille's solid defense has played a crucial role in the team's impressive home performance this season in Ligue 1, securing 26 points from 11 games (eight wins, two draws, and one loss).

The defensive prowess of Lille also stands out as one of the strongest among teams playing at home across the top five European leagues, conceding only four goals.

Following Lille in boasting the strongest home defenses among Europe's top five leagues are OGC Nice (five goals conceded), Inter Milan (six goals conceded), Torino (six goals conceded), Valencia (six goals conceded), Bayer Leverkusen (six goals conceded), Olympique de Marseille (six goals conceded), and Juventus (six goals conceded).

Lille's excellent defending was displayed this weekend, with Les Dogues recording a clean sheet in their 3-0 win over Le Havre at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. One key aspect that led to the clean sheet was Lille limiting Le Club Doyen to six total shots and two shots on target.

Paulo Fonseca and his team have accumulated the highest number of home clean sheets (eight) among all teams in Europe's top five leagues. Lucas Chevalier has been a standout in this area, as the 22-year-old has registered three clean sheets in his last four home fixtures.

Lille has had an impressive record this season in Ligue 1, winning seven home matches without letting in a single goal. Only Inter Milan in the five major leagues can match this feat, also with seven clean sheets. In France's top flight, OGC Nice have managed eight clean sheets, but two of them resulted in scoreless draws.

To minimize the risk of letting in goals, the first step is to avoid giving the opposing team any chances. Lille excels in this aspect, facing the fewest shots at home compared to any other team (7.4 per match). Additionally, Fonseca's team showcases their defensive prowess by keeping fouls to a minimum, with a total of 103, the lowest among home teams.

Overall, Lille's defensive performance stands out, allowing them to have the highest difference between attempted shots and shots faced (+78), both at home and throughout the entire Ligue 1 season.

Lille's strong defensive performance at home could give them an advantage in the fierce competition to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League.
