FC Lorient have been on a roll lately, winning their last three Ligue 1 matches and managing to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.

During these last three league games, Lorient secured more victories (three) than they did in their first 19 fixtures of the 2023-24 season, where Les Merlus managed only two wins, seven draws, and ten losses.

In February, this Lorient side showed a noticeable change compared to previous months. Régis Le Bris and his team have scored seven goals and only conceded twice - matching precisely the record of Paris Saint-Germain, who are currently top of Ligue 1.

Les tangos et noirs have also registered a goal differential of plus-five in February, leveling them with PSG. Lorient have accumulated nine points this month, putting them fourth alongside PSG, Olympique Lyonnais, and Stade Rennais to achieve this accomplishment.

Checking out the bottom half of the table, Lorient and OL have been the standout performers this month, each bagging nine points. Both teams have now moved up the standings, placing themselves above the relegation zone. Toulouse is the only other club in the bottom half that has accumulated more than three points, which is why they also find themselves in the safety zone.

Lorient's recent success owes much to Mohamed Bamba's standout performance. Since joining in January, he's netted five goals in just four Ligue 1 matches. This Sunday, he achieved a rare feat, becoming the first player in over 50 years to score in his first four Ligue 1 games, a record held by Giora Spiegel in 1973 with RC Strasbourg.

Bamba's remarkable performances place him among the most impactful winter signings of the 21st century in Ligue 1. If Lorient stays in France's top league, they can attribute their February performance as a crucial turning point in their season.
