ASSE striker Denis Bouanga took his Ligue 1 Conforama form into national team duty with Gabon, while LOSC goal sensation Victor Osimhen bagged a brace as Nigeria beat Lesotho 4-1, also in AFCON 2021 qualifying.

After drawing with DR Congo on Thursday (0-0), Gabon recovered well on Sunday, defeating Angola 2-1 to go top of their AFCON 2021 qualifying group -thanks in no small part to AS Saint-Etienne striker Denis Bouanga. Aaron Boupendza, on loan from the Girondins de Bordeaux to Feirense (Portuguese D2), opened the scoring (27'), but Bouanga was the man of the match, playing a key role in all Gabon's attacking moves.

Currently in fine form with Les Verts (four goals and two assists in the last four Ligue 1 Conforama outings), the former Nîmes player made it 2-0 as he snaffled up an assist from former Saint-Etienne man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang just before the break (45'). Patrice Neveu's Black Panthers dominated, and Bouanga could have scored more, but Tony slammed a free-kick under the bar (79') to make it 2-1.

Osimhen, Sylla to the fore

Meanwhile LOSC goal machine Victor Osimhen starred for Nigeria as Super Eagles handed Lesotho a 4-2 defeat in their qualifier on Sunday. Osimhen, who has racked up seven goals and two assists in 13 Ligue 1 Conforama outings this season, secured the result with a late double (75', 84'), helping his side to go clear atop their qualifying group.

In other AFCON 2021 qualifying action, Toulouse FC defender Issiaga Sylla scored a first-ever competitive goal for his country as Guinea beat Namibia 2-0 to also go top of their qualifying group.
