Bebeto backs Thiago Silva, Lucas
Brazil legend Bebeto has spoken out in support of Paris Saint-Germain's Thiago Silva, dropped from the Brazil squad by coach Dunga, as well as advocating more for more national-team faith in exciting PSG prospect Lucas.
Brazil's shock 7-1 semi-final loss to Germany in the World Cup in 2014 - followed by their quarter-finals elimination from the 2015 Copa America - had the devastated South American nation looking for answers but, according to Seleção legend Bebeto, current Brazil coach Dunga has made scapegoat of former national captain Thiago Silva.
The Paris Saint-Germain stopper has been frozen out of the Brazil squad and Bebeto - a World Cup winner in 1994 - fears that Dunga's choices, in this case and others - could affect Brazil's chances of making it to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
"To be honest, I find it unacceptable that he isn't in the squad," Bebeto, speaking to France Football, said of a Thiago Silva who has been excellent this season in a PSG side yet to taste domestic defeat while boasting the division's best defence. "In my team, he would be a starter every single time. If I were the coach, I'd call up Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Miranda and Marquinhos in central defence."
Love for Lucas
Bebeto also feels that another Paris Saint-Germain star - mercurial midfielder Lucas Moura - would benefit from more support from the Brazil coach.
"He's a great player," the 1998 World Cup finalist declared. "He needs to have more faith put in him, because that's been lacking in the national team. He has the quality to be a starter in this team."
