Payet stunner voted UEL goal of the season

UEFA Europa League

Dimitri Payet may find some consolation in his brilliant individual effort in Olympique de Marseille's UEFA Europa League win over RB Leipzig being voted the competition's goal of the season.

Payet was left out of France's World Cup squad on Thursday, 24 hours after aggravating a thigh injury in OM's Europa League final loss to Atletico Madrid in Lyon.

But his stunning solo strike against Leipzig in Marseille's incredible 5-2 quarter-final second leg win did claim top prize from a panel of experts.

The France international, who has registered ten assists in Ligue 1 Conforama since the turn of the year — more than any player in any of Europe's top five leagues — will hope his OM teammates can win at home to Amiens SC in Saturday's final league game and — if results go their way — secure a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.
