1-0 to the LOSC again
LOSC scored their third 1-0 victory in a row, beating Brest in order to climb to provisional third place in the table.
LOSC 1-0 Stade Brestois 29
Only 10th after Week 14, LOSC have flown up the table, boosted by the return to form of Jonathan Ikoné and the irrepressible Osimhen, who has scored all nine of his Ligue 1 Conforama goals in home games.
Brest had battered Strasbourg in midweek but were firmly second best here as Christophe Galtier's hosts should have won by more. Gautier Larsonneur, in the Brest goal, enjoyed an outstanding game and saved a late penalty from Jonathan Bamba (90+4'). Larsonneur distinguished himself throughout, making a great save from an early acrobatic Osimhen effort (12').
The Nigerian international did not have to wait long to get his goal (16') as Ikoné pulled the ball back for the forward to score in a reversal of the roles for the winner at Lyon on Tuesday. French international Ikoné's first assist of the season owed plenty to the intelligent movement of Osimhen, who again made the difference in front of his home fans. When Osimhen scored, Brest were down to ten men with Jean-Charles Castelletto off the field injured and about to be replaced by Denys Bain.
Renato Sanches is another LOSC player in fine form and Larsonneur had to deal with a free-kick from the Portuguese international, before keeping out Ikoné (55') and Bamba (58'). Bamba earned a penalty when brought down by Larsonneur in added time but the goalkeeper redeemed himself by going the right way to deny the former Saint-Etienne attacker.
THE PLAYER: Victor Osimhen
If Osimhen starts to score goals away from home then the 20-year-old will be hard to stop in the race to become top scorer in the dvision. A ninth of the season took him to just one goal behind Wissam Ben Yedder of Monaco and Moussa Dembélé of Lyon.
THE STAT: 3
LOSC have won three games in a row for the first time since their run of five straight successes between January 11 and February 10 2019.
