Amiens break away-day duck at Toulouse
Amiens SC registered their first away win of the Ligue 1 Conforama season as they picked up a 1-0 victory at Toulouse FC despite a frantic finish on Saturday.
Toulouse FC 0-1 Amiens SC
Winless in eight, Toulouse were only slightly worse off in terms of form than Amiens, who had lost six of their previous eight league games, yet both sides made light of their lack of confidence.
Home captain Max-Alain Gradel, who had scored to secure a point for his side in Strasbourg last time out, hit the crossbar early (3'), and then forced Régis Gurtner into a save that saw the Amiens goalkeeper parry the ball into the path of François Moubandje — the Switzerland international was denied by Gurtner too (14').
The Amiens goalkeeper was a busy man. He brilliantly parried Manuel Garcia's close-range diving header (25') before Toulouse were undone by a familiar face.
Alexis Blin made 82 Ligue 1 Conforama appearances for the south-westerners before moving to Amiens on loan this summer. He had scored just one league goal for TFC — he has now equalled that tally in just four top-flight games for his new employers after firing crisply past Baptiste Reynet following a smart one-two with Saman Ghoddos (28').
Gurtner intercepted a dangerous Gradel ball aimed towards Aaron Leya Iseka (38') before Jordan Lefort sent a shot just wide of the target with Reynet looking like he was beaten (62').
Ganso then fired narrowly past a post (62') as Amiens looked to have seized the initiative. Toulouse thought they had seized it back when Gradel fired home from Matthieu Dossevi's cut-back, but the effort was ruled out with Dossevi having strayed offside.
Gradel had one final attempt to grab an equaliser, but Gurtner again frustrated him, turning away a powerful header (90+4') to allow Christophe Pelissier's men to pick up their first maximum haul on the road in Ligue 1 Conforama this season.
THE PLAYER: Regis Gurtner
The Amiens goalkeeper brought up his half-century of top-flight appearances in style. Only Paris Saint-Germain's Alphonse Areola has a better shots-to-saves ratio than him in Ligue 1 Conforama.
THE STAT: 5
Toulouse have now failed to win any of their last five home matches, losing three times.
