Auxerre won a Ligue 1 game for only the second time this season, beating Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 at the Parc des Princes. Brazilian wide man Nene scored both PSG goals in a wondrous display.

Paris Saint-Germain  2-3 AJ Auxerre

A win for Antoine Kombouaré’s side would have carried them on to 18 points, level with Saint-Etienne and Brest, and a single point back from leaders Rennes.

The French capital club made a perfect start with PSG taking a first-minute lead. Ludovic Giuly slipped the ball to Nene and he curled in a superb finish. Auxerre goalkeeper Olivier Sorin stood no chance. "What a goal," said the stadium announcer and he wasn’t wrong. Nene adds the fantasy to PSG’s play.

Just three minutes later Auxerre equalised with PSG conceding in the league for the first time since late August. They boasted five clean sheets in a row in Ligue 1 before Auxerre defender Jean-Pascal Mignot found the back of Apoula Edel’s net. It was a fortuitous finish, flicking off Mevlut Erding on its way in.

Auxerre turn it around

Suddenly Auxerre were rampant and on 11 minutes they took the lead on the counter. Dennis Oliech had too much power and pace for Siaka Tiené and squared for Roy Contout to tap the ball home. The Kenyan Oliech was sent off in the Champions League loss at Ajax in midweek but redeemed himself here in the eyes of coach Jean Fernandez. There was an element of luck about this goal too as Contout’s finish went through centre-half Sylvain Armand’s legs on the line.

PSG have come up against a number of goalkeepers in good form at the Parc des Princes this season and Sorin was proving no exception to the rule, denying a Christophe Jallet piledriver before Auxerre went 3-1 up on 24 minutes. Benoit Pedretti played a one-two with Oliech in the Auxerre half before sending forward a sweet through ball to find Julien Quercia, who rounded Edel and finished from a tight angle. Mamadou Sakho played Quercia onside after a misunderstanding with Armand. Auxerre managed to score these goals even without leading front players Ireneusz Jelen and Anthony Le Tallec, out injured.

In the second half PSG were the superior side and Auxerre invited them to attack. Tiené’s fine ball in it was met by Erding’s forehead, Sorin saved and Nene, surprised that the ball came back to him in front of goal, was unable to control.

Nene and PSG late surge

PSG were awarded a penalty midway through the second period, Nene with the dangerous ball in and Clément Chantôme was fouled by Stéphane Grichting. The Swiss international defender raked his studs on the midfielder’s thigh. Nene slotted in his second of the evening and his sixth in Ligue 1 this campaign to add to two more in the Europa League.

Nene was irrepressible. Erding met the playmaker’s free kick at the near post and again Sorin was alert to deny PSG an equaliser. And then Nene went in search of a hat-trick but Sorin was simply magnificent in the Auxerre goal, enjoying one of those special evenings, and he beat away the free kick.

This PSG’s second home defeat of the season and Auxerre’s second away win. Auxerre move out of the bottom three and drop Monaco into the relegation zone.
