Bastia bag Brandão
SC Bastia have finally snapped up Brazilian striker Brandão, following a protracted chase for the 34-year-old after his release by Ligue 1 rivals Saint-Étienne.
Having initially announced the signing last week, Bastia called it off a day later with ASSE demanding compensation due to money owed for the transfer of defender Sylvain Marchal in 2012.
A one-year deal with an option for a further 12 months has now been concluded, and represents something of a coup for new Bastia manager Claude Makélélé. Former Olympique de Marseille and Shakhtar Donetsk man Brandão had attracted interest from a number of French and Brazilian clubs after his deal at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard expired.
Brandão - who scored five goals and added four assists in 18 starts for ASSE last season - will get the chance to line up against former side OM when Marcelo Bielsa's side visit the Stade Armand Cesari on Saturday.
