Chavarria rescues Reims against Angers
Stade de Reims again had the influential Pablo Chavarria to thank as they picked up a point with a 1-1 draw at home to Angers SCO on Saturday.
Stade de Reims 1-1 Angers SCO
With Reims winless in seven and Angers having lost just one of their last five, the visitors were favourites to claim the three points and but for Edouard Mendy's reflexes, Jeff Reine-Adelaïde would have put them ahead early on (12').
Instead, they had to wait until nine minutes before the break to go in front. Pierrick Capelle's corner was touched on by Romain Thomas and Ismaël Traoré smashed the ball beyond Mendy from close range (36').
Stéphane Bahoken sent a powerful shot just wide (48') as Stéphane Moulin's men sought to press home their advantage, but Reims responded quickly with Rémi Oudin hitting the woodwork (49').
The hosts eventually wore down their opponents to claim a deserved leveller. Ludovic Butelle might have done better than just push out Moussa Doumbia's shot straight to Chavarria, who could not fail to claim his second league goal of the season (73').
THE PLAYER: Pablo Chavarria
With an assist too, the Argentine has been involved in three of Reims' five league goals this season. This one brought an important point for his team.
THE STAT: 16
