China to host 2014 Trophée des Champions
The 2014 Trophée des Champions will be contested in Beijing as part of the official programme to mark the 50th anniversary of official diplomatic relations between China and France.
The 19th edition of the Trophée des Champions will take place on Saturday 2 August at the Workers Stadium in the Chinese capital, Beijing.
This year's showpiece will pit Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain against Coupe de France winners En Avant de Guingamp for the chance to gain the first piece of silverware of the 2014-15 season.
Beginning on 27 January this year, the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France has been punctuated by many events, encompassing fields such as visual arts, theatre, dance, economic cooperation, food, literature, sports and scientific research, under the auspices of the French Institute (l'Institut Français).
With 101 establishments and 125 annexes around the world, the French Institute operates and coordinates France's cultural activities. It was created by law in July 2010 and implemented by decree the following December. Under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the French Institute is responsible, as part of the policy and guidelines adopted by the State, for realising France's ambition of renewed diplomatic influence.
Founded in 1995, the Trophée des Champions has been held overseas since 2009 in order to raise awareness of Ligue 1 internationally. After two editions in North America (Montreal 2009, New York 2012) and three editions in Africa (Tunis 2010, Tanger 2011, Libreville 2013), 2014 will mark the first time the competition has been held in Asia, with this meeting organised by Beijing's Workers Stadium in partnership with United Vansen International Sport (UVS).
