Courbis on way back to Montpellier

Montpellier Hérault SC have announced the imminent return to the club as coach of Rolland Courbis.

Montpellier have confirmed that Courbis will sign a two-and-a-half-year deal to take charge at the Stade de la Mosson for the second time following the resignation of Jean Fernandez on Thursday.

Courbis, 60, previously took charge of Montpellier between 2007 and 2009, leading them to promotion to Ligue 1 in his second season to end a five-year exile in Ligue 2. He then departed, making way for René Girard.

Courbis, who notably played for Sochaux and Monaco, has vast experience as a coach. He took Marseille to the UEFA Cup final in 1999, while most recently he was in charge of USM Alger in Algeria.

Fernandez resigned after just six months in charge on Thursday, in the wake of Montpellier's 2-0 home defeat to Lorient. The 2012 champions have won just twice in 16 games this season and came into the weekend five points above the relegation zone.
