Debuchy: 'Hazard the best'
Out for six weeks with an ankle injury, Mathieu Debuchy has had a long and rich Ligue 1 Conforama career. Find out why the French international rates Eden Hazard as "the best" and much, much more…
Debuchy, a double winner with LOSC in 2011, sat down with The Ligue 1 Show on BeIn Sports a few days before hurting himself in ASSE's 3-2 loss at Bordeaux.
"My best memory is winning the league title with Lille. We had an exceptional team and we got the job done. We clinched the title in Paris and then had a huge party back home."
"Without hesitation Eden Hazard. He is exceptional. As soon as he broke in to the side he stood out. You could see how was a great player. He played without pressure as a kid, and he was mature, both on and off the pitch. He was deadly on the pitch and had a wonderful season when we won the league."
"I could cite several but I'll go with Hatem Ben Arfa, when he was at Marseille he caused us a lot of problems. He changes direction quickly, he's powerful and skilful. So he's a complete player and he's hard to stop."
"I got on well with Yohan Cabaye, also at Lille. We've been mates since we were kids and we came through together at Lille, so we had a bit of a special relationship."
"Rudi Garcia and, well I could name them all. Claude Puel launched my career, so he was special because your first steps in the game are important, and I learned a lot from him. Rudi Garcia is the one who moved me to right-back. I'll also say Jean-Louis Gasset because he believed in me when I was struggling at Arsenal, he gave me the chance to bounce back."
