Diawara: 'Let's end this run'
Souleymane Diawara has called on Olympique de Marseille to do everything they can to halt their 35-year-long winless streak at Girondins de Bordeaux on Sunday.
Girondins de Bordeaux - Olympique de Marseille
OM's last league victory at the Stade Chaban-Delmas came in 1977, and they have avoided defeat in Bordeaux on just nine of their 27 visits since. Sunday evening's encounter will be the 50th league meeting in the south-west between the pair, the ideal opportunity - says ex-Bordeaux defender Diawara - to end OM's hoodoo.
"When I was at Bordeaux, I didn't know it had been such a long time since OM had won there," said the Senegalese international, who won the Ligue 1 title with Les Girondins in a two-year spell at the club before moving to the Stade Vélodrome in 2009.
"I'm not sure the Bordeaux squad are aware of that stat. It has more significance in Marseille as people are more superstitious there. But we have to put an end to this series, and I hope it'll be on Sunday."
Ex-Bordeaux coach and current OM boss Elie Baup will be without midfielder Morgan Amalfitano, who starts a two-game ban handed down by the LFP's Disciplinary Commission for incidents between the ex-FC Lorient man and Paris Saint-Germain's Blaise Matuidi during the teams' Week 8 encounter.
