Dijon finally open account but are held by Nîmes
Dijon FCO earned their first point of the 2019/20 season thanks to a goalless draw with Nîmes Olympique on Saturday.
Dijon FCO 0-0 Nîmes Olympique
Nîmes won both matches between the pair last season, and with Dijon the only club in the division still to open their account four games into the campaign, the visitors must have been optimistic of following up their Week 4 success over Stade Brestois 29, which had marked their first triumph of the season, and claim only their second win in ten away trips.
Dijon though were determined, and with Mama Baldé paired with fellow new arrival Stephy Mavididi up front they were also dangerous. It was not until the second half, however, that they really began to apply pressure on their visitors' goal.
Mounir Chouiar tested Paul Bernardoni with a powerful shot (59') and the France U21 international goalkeeper was called on again soon after when Mavididi held off Lucas Deaux before firing goalwards (61').
With Bernardoni in fine form, and Baldé in particular wasteful with the opportunities presented to him, Dijon could not find a way through, though a first clean sheet in 11 league games and their first point was enough to console them.
THE PLAYER: Paul Bernardoni
Without their goalkeeper in such good shape, Nîmes would have come away from the Stade Gaston Gérard empty-handed.
THE STAT: 14
This was Nîmes' first clean sheet away from home in 14 league games.
