Paris Saint-Germain shaded the good chance count yet their game at Lille finished goalless. Guillaume Hoarau had the best opportunity of the match after a quickly taken free kick from ex-Lille star Mathieu Bodmer. PSG move up to four points and this was Lille's second draw in a row.

Hoarau’s chance came 20 minutes from time. Lille’s defence was caught napping as Bodmer picked out the striker, who made his France debut in the midweek friendly with Norway. Fortunately for Rudi Garcia’s side, goalkeeper Mickaël Landreau was swiftly off his line to pressurise the tall forward and Hoarau steered his shot wide of the post.

Neither goalkeeper was seriously tested in a game long on good intentions and commitment but short on goalmouth incident. Landreau, facing his former club, was the busier of the custodians, saving from Nenê, cutting in from the right, just before the interval.

Nenê to the fore

The Brazilian, signed from Monaco this summer, built on a goalscoring debut in the 3-1 Week 1 home win over Saint-Etienne with another assured performance. The quality of his crossing and shooting with his left foot looked PSG’s most promising source and in the second half Landreau had to be vigilant to deal with a series of vicious free kicks. Nenê’s final effort, in stoppage time at the end of the game, was just a whisker away from finding the top corner.

Lille, after a 1-1 draw at Rennes in Week 1, have yet to recapture the attacking fluency which saw them become the top scorers in the division last campaign but such is the wealth of forward talent at the club’s disposal that surely it won’t be long before they bid to reclaim their status as Ligue 1’s entertainers.

A Tulio De Melo snapshot early on was the best Lille could muster as star players including Gervinho and Eden Hazard continue to look short of match fitness.

Both clubs now turn their attentions to the Europa League play-offs with PSG at home to Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv and Lille travelling to Romania to take on Vaslui.
