Gourcuff pegs back Bordeaux
Yoann Gourcuff scored the equaliser against former club Bordeaux as Rennes left the Matmut Atlantique with a 1-1 draw.
Girondins de Bordeaux 1-1 Stade Rennais FC
Bordeaux were denied a third straight Ligue 1 win as they were unable to hold onto a lead given to them by Jérémy Ménez, while Rennes were unable to break a winless sequence that now stands at seven league games.
A drab first half was notable only for Cédric Carrasso saving midway through it from Rennes debutant Morgan Amalfitano, and visiting forward Giovanni Sio being unable to finish from a tricky angle just before the break.
Eleven minutes into the second half Bordeaux produced a move of genuine quality. Milan Gajic crossed from the right towards the penalty spot, it deflected off a defender and Ménez pounced at the far post to score his third of the season and his first since Week 10.
Gourcuff caused anguish for his former worshippers in the 69th minute when he greeted an inviting Ludovic Baal cross with a diving header to score his second goal in three Ligue 1 games and ease some of the pressure on his father Christian, the Rennes coach.
Bordeaux forward Gaëtan Laborde shot wide when unmarked 15 minutes from time following a Girondins counter, and soon after that Sio was unable to find the target with a header from a Baal cross as the spoils were shared.
