Guingamp still bottom after Caen draw
Nicolas Benezet's EA Guingamp remain bottom of the table despite battling to a 0-0 draw away to SM Caen in Normandy on Saturday.
SM Caen 0 - 0 EA Guingamp
After starting the season with six straight defeats, Guingamp had gone three unbeaten prior to the international break and they were aiming to continue that improvement here at the Stade Michel-d'Ornano.
This was no easy task for the men from Brittany, with coach Antoine Kombouaré deprived of a host of players including the suspended Christophe Kerbrat and Marcus Thuram, but they dug out a draw, with Étienne Didot making a vital block on the line from a Prince Oniangué header late in the first half.
Yacine Bammou came close to beating Guingamp goalkeeper Karl-Johan Johnsson late on, but this was a match short on drama and it is just one win in six now for Caen. They remain in mid-table, while Guingamp stay bottom of the table, although they are now behind Thierry Henry's AS Monaco only on goal difference.
THE PLAYER: Djegui Koita
The 19-year-old Malian was handed his Ligue 1 Conforama debut in a Guingamp defence deprived of Kerbrat and Félix Eboa Eboa due to suspension and will take confidence from helping his team come away with a clean sheet and a point.
THE STAT: 7
Caen are unbeaten in their last seven top-flight meetings with Guingamp, although five of these games have ended in draws.
