Antoine Kombouaré's men headed to Brittany with confidence following their 1-1 draw with Lyon last weekend, but found their hosts at the Stade Yves Allainmat in enterprising mood after their own fine start to the season.
Pierre Ducasse and Kevin Gameiro both tested Grégory Coupet in the visitors' goal before Christian Gourcuff finally saw his side capitalise on their dominance five minutes before the break. The ever-lively Marama Vahirua found Gameiro and his cute backheel flummoxed everyone bar Arnold Mvuemba, who sent a drive fizzing past Coupet and into the bottom corner.
PSG, though, have creativity and pace in their side, a potent mix when there is also a finisher of Hoarau's capabilities to finish off their approach work, and he brought the visitors level in the dying seconds of the first half.
Stéphane Sessegnon's penetrating burst allowed him to free Ludovic Giuly, and the diminutive midfielder's inch-perfect cross was met by Hoarau, who left Fabien Audard helpless with a crisp finish.
Les Merlus continued to dominate, though, and only Coupet prevented Gameiro putting the hosts in front with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.
PSG, however, could have been heading home with all three points but passed up a gilt-edged opportunity five minutes from time - Giuly fired goalwards with Audard stranded after the Lorient keeper had left his line to deal with a long ball, but Sylvain Marchal was well-positioned to deflect the ball to safety.
