Denis Bouanga scored a 93rd-minute penalty as Saint-Etienne won 1-0 at Bordeaux, who had Laurent Koscielnygo off injured in the first half.

Girondins de Bordeaux 0-1 AS Saint-Étienne

Having scored a late derby winner at home to Olympique Lyonnais in Claude Puel's first game in charge, ASSE repeated the feat at Les Girondins, helped in large part by an outstanding goalkeeping display from the returning Stéphane Ruffier. The success made it three straight 1-0 wins for Les Verts.

The games started brightly with Samuel Kalu (1') and Bouanga (2') having decent attempts. François Kamano (16') came off second-best in the one-on-one with Ruffier, who then did well to save twice from Yacine Adli (31' and 33'). Koscielny, the summer signing from Arsenal, had started well but went off (25') with an ankle injury, replaced by Vukasin Jovanovic.

Puel named a young side and Wesley Fofana, 18, did well to halt sub Ui-Jo Hwang, bzfore Ruffier saved twice from the South Korean (67' and 80'). Space opened up at the end of the game and it was decided by a Pablo error as he fouled Saint-Etienne substitute Arnaud Nordin. Bouanga converted the penalty as ASSE moved into the top half of the table.

THE PLAYER: Stéphane Ruffier

Back from a fractured left hand, the experienced goalkeeper was outstanding and when the Bordeaux attackers remember this game they will think back to the multiple saves made by the goalkeeper.

Saint-Etienne have scored their last six penalties. This was their first penalty of the season.
