With 18 players still in the competition as it moves into the quarter-final stage, Ligue 1 Conforama is assured of being represented in the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The Uruguay of Edinson Cavani will do battle with Kylian Mbappé and eight other Bleus, Paris Saint-Germain's Brazilians (Neymar, Thiago Silva and Marquinhos) face off against club-mate Thomas Meunier's Belgium: the clashes in store for the quarters are such that there will be at least one side featuring a Ligue 1 Conforama player in the World Cup final!

In the top half of the bracket, there are 14 players who ply their trade with clubs fighting it out for the top spots in France's top flight: eight from Paris Saint-Germain (Cavani, Kimpembe, Mbappé, Areola, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Neymar and Meunier), three from Olympique de Marseille (Mandanda, Rami and Thauvin), two from AS Monaco (Lemar and Sidibé) one from Olympique Lyonnais (Fekir).

Furthermore, Kylian Mbappé is one of just eight players to have been named Man of the Match twice so far during the World Cup in Russia. And among the eight quarter-finals, three yielded a Man of the Match who plies his trade in Ligue 1 Conforama: Cavani against Portugal, Mbappé against Argentina and Neymar versus Mexico, while ex-LOSC star Eden Hazard got the nod after Belgium's dramatic comeback against Japan.

18 Ligue 1 Conforama players still in the running!

Meanwhile in the bottom half of the bracket, there are more Ligue 1 Conforama representatives: AS Monaco 'keeper Danijel Subasic, the hero of Croatia's penalty shoot-out with Denmark, and Toulouse FC's Ola Toivonen and Jimmy Durmaz, as well as EA Guingamp glovesman Karl-Johan Johnsson, whose Sweden side will face England in the quarters. That makes a total of 18 Ligue 1 Conforama players - from a starting total of 52 - who are still in the running to claim football's top prize.

In the footsteps of Ronaldinho and Edmilson?

The last Ligue 1 Conforama players to be crowned World Champions were Brazilians Ronaldinho (PSG) and Edmilson (OL), who claimed football's Holy Grail in 2002 when the tournament was held in South Korea and Japan. France's top flight was of course much better represented by the World Cup champions four years earlier, when nine French players playing in Ligue 1 (Barthez, Charbonnier, Blanc, Pirès, Guivarc'h, Henry, Diomède, Trezeguet and Dugarry) won the title with Les Bleus on home soil. Will there be one or more reigning World Champions playing in Ligue 1 Conforama next season. We'll find out on 15 July…
