Lille snap up prospect Boufal
LOSC Lille have announced the signing of highly-rated winger Sofiane Boufal from Angers SCO on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
The twinkle-toed 21-year-old Paris-born starlet had been a target for a host of clubs in Ligue 1 and around Europe, but it is Lille who have won the race for his signature for an undisclosed fee on a deal through to the summer of 2019. And news of his arrival will come as a major boost to a club who are enduring a difficult season following last year's run to third place.
"It is quite something to sign for such a club. I am delighted to take this step up. I wanted to stay in France and Lille showed an interest and quickly convinced me," Boufal said in an interview with the club's official website.
Of taking that step up to Ligue 1, Boufal, who has Moroccan roots but was raised in Angers, said: "I don't feel any negative apprehension. The demands will not be the same as at Angers. But I am not worried because there is a very good coach here and a top-level squad. It is up to me to show my qualities so that I can benefit from the coach's confidence."
Boufal arrives after scoring four goals and laying on three more in the first half of the season with Angers in Ligue 2. He made his senior debut in August 2012 before becoming a regular last season as Angers came close to winning promotion to the top flight.
