LOSC land Anelka as youth coach
Former France international and high-level journeyman Nicolas Anelka has signed on with LOSC in a coaching role with the club's youth academy forwards.
LOSC's training centre the Domaine de Luchin will soon see former France striker Nicolas Anelka showing up on a regular basis.
"Nicolas Anelka will be working the youngsters at Lille's academy as youth attacking coach," LOSC announced in a communiqué on Wednesday, with club president Gérard Lopez adding that the 39-year-old will work with "youngsters from 14 years of age up to the reserve team".
Meanwhile, senior-team boss Christophe Galtier, who has made a huge impact at the club since arriving in January, understands that Anelka is keen to take things step by step.
"Nicolas has a real desire to make a start in the coaching world," he declared. "He doesn't want to be in the spotlight with the senior team. He will bring his expertise and knowledge of the role of a striker to our youngsters but he doesn't want to be exposed to the professional level just yet."
Anelka, who has 69 France caps to his name, will bring a wealth of experience with him after a career spent playing for Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Juventus, Fenerbahçe, Bolton Wanderers and West Bromwich.
In Ligue 1 Conforama, Nicolas Anelka made 49 appearances and scored 11 goals for Paris Saint-Germain, the club whose youth academy he came up through.
