Marseille bring Rami back to France

Ligue 1 Conforama > News

Olympique de Marseille have announced the signing of France stopper Adil Rami from FC Sevilla on a four-year €6m deal that trumped interest from the EPL and Turkish Süper Lig for the former LOSC, Valencia and Milan defender.

OM's summer recruitment campaign continued in full force on Thursday as the name of France international Adil Rami (33 caps, one goal) was added to a list of summer signings including the likes of club icon Steve Mandanda, defensive midfield boss Luis Gustavo and reigning Ligue 1 champion with Monaco Valère Germain.

Full circle

Rami, 31, was the target of interest from England an Turkey, but the man who had a proposed switch to Marseille scuppered by LOSC in 2009 finally got his move and put pen to paper on the four-year, €6m deal on Thursday before meeting up with his new teammates on training camp in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Rami is of course no stranger to Ligue 1 Conforama, having played for LOSC for five seasons (140 appearances, nine goals) and winning the league and Coupe de France double there before going on to play for Valencia CF, AC Milan and Sevilla FC.

Framework emerges

The capture of Rami shows that OM owner Frank McCourt's 'Champions Project' is proceeding methodically, with quality signings all over the park constructing a skeleton of talented, experienced players to bring coach Rudi Garcia's attack-minded play to the field as the club looks to build on an extremely promising second half of the 2016-17 season.
