Mbappé, Neymar: Superstar alert for PSG
Paris Saint-Germain saw its two most expensive players - Kylian Mbappé and Neymar - forced off injured while on duty with their respective national teams just a week out from the crunch UEFA Champions League clash with Liverpool.
With the crunch UEFA Champions League Matchday 5 clash at home to Liverpool looming next Wednesday, Tuesday night must have had something of a nightmarish tinge for Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel.
Kylian Mbappé injured his shoulder in an awkward fall as France beat Uruguay 1-0 and Neymar limped off with a groin complaint just eight minutes into Brazil's 1-0 friendly win over Cameroon, and now the capital club are awaiting the results of further examinations to see what the impact on their UEFA Champions League campaign will be.
Despite having won all 13 of their Ligue 1 Conforama matches so far in 2018-19, Tuchel's men have found it tougher going in Europe and currently sit third in Group C with a win, two draws and a defeat. Next Wednesday's home clash against group leaders Liverpool is crucial for Paris in the wide-open group, where a win could see them end up topping the table and defeat could see them relegated to the UEFA Europa League or crash out of Europe altogether.
However, Neymar made a reassuring Instagram post on Wednesday morning, declaring "I don't think it's serious", while fears that Mbappé had dislocated his shoulder were put to rest by the France medical staff with a diagnosis of bruising.
The pair may well be rested for Paris' Ligue 1 Conforama Week 14 clash at home to Toulouse on Saturday but should be in contention to take the field as the Tuchel's men look to secure their immediate future in the competition the club's owners would so dearly love to win.
